Interested in reading African/Arab literature? Thinking about books for your students to read in a World History or World Lit class? Want to know more about a classic anti-colonial masterpiece? My review of Tayeb Salih's Season of Migration to the North:https://youtu.be/2T37acegvzQ
Season of Migration to the North was banned in Sudan but Tayeb Salih won global notoriety for this masterpiece of literature. I review it as a historian and interpret it as a piece of literature that is both making and made by history. This novel is fictional but its focus on sex, violence, colonialism provides a perfect metaphor for understanding the relationship between the Sudan and the Condominium government of Britain and Egypt.
